Don’t Waste Your Time Watching ‘The K2’

Ji Chang-Wook (K2) who was in the military before he got accused to killing somebody he did not killed and has been on the run ever since. Current day,  while he is fixing a banner that got loose in a company, he accidentally witnessed an ambush and when he saw that an elderly was injured in the process he decided to step in and tried to save the elderly.

Little did he know, that the company belongs to JSS which is a security group who protects the Jang Se-Joon, who is currently running for president. Eventually, he was offered a job to be a bodyguard at JSS because of his skills, and that is where he grow close to a woman named, Anna (Yoona) .

To be honest, this drama is a disappointment. It wasn’t a bad drama, it’s just lacking in a lot of places which could do with some improvement and some more development with the plot. I watched Healer before this, and I fell in love with the show. Because the main character is the same, Ji Chang-Wook (who is really hot), and not to mention the high rating for this drama, I decided to give this a try. I had high hopes for this drama, seeing how hyped up the show was, but in the end I dropped it at episode 11 and basically skimmed through the last few episodes.

The pace of this drama is fast, it is way too fast at some places and way too slow at another. Albeit it saying that this is an action drama, I feel like this is more of a political drama. There is just so much politics involved, yes, I know that I should not complain seeing that I know what I am getting into before I started this show. There is just way too much planning and not enough action, and whenever there is action scenes it all feels like it’s fleeting and the producers of the show are just putting some action in to satisfy the viewers.

Moreover, the issue with this drama is that, usually in K-dramas, they do not only focus on one main problem,  they create tiny problems along the way so it doesn’t feel like the whole show is dragged on for just one big climax. With The K2, it doesn’t seem like there is anything else going on in this show other than protect Anna and fighting to be the next president and all the politic that goes it between. This show keeps building the viewers up for something big to happen and then in the next episode they would dampen down the scenes and calm things down.

The romance between Anna and K2 feels like it’s going too fast, it’s like you are going on a bullet train with these two. Yes, they are cute and compatible together, they also have a lot of chemistry too.  However the range of emotions that Je Ha (Ji Chang-Wook) goes through for Anna (Yoona) in this drama, feels a little bit too extreme for me. I would want a little more of a character development instead of just sped-up love story. It is nice when a drama is fast-paced but there is a difference between fast-paced and rushed.

And is it just me, or is there some weird chemistry going on between Je Ha (Ji Chang-Wook) and Choi Yoo-Jin (Song Yoon Ah)? It’s just the way the you would catch her looking at Je Ha and how she would care for him in subtle ways, like, I don’t know how to describe it.

I did get my fill of my handsome baby Ji Chang-Wook, and his acting is impressive as always. Yoona’s acting seems to improve a lot as well, which is always a good thing. If you like drama about politics and a little bit of action, maybe you could give this one a try.
