Up Close and Personal : What Tv Shows Am I Currently Bingeing On?
Lately, not only that my appetite for reading has come back from the dead, it seems like my tv show addiction has also slowly started to rear it’s cute ass. And whenever I started to get obsessed with watching tv shows, I usually go through certain phases.
I have even taken the time to name them.
There is one that I call the “Dry Phase”, where I barely watch any tv shows at all because nothing catch my interest and also because I can be a difficult bitch sometimes. And then there is the, “On and Off Phase”, this one is just basically me being thirsty and start picking up any tv show that I can get my hands on, only to end up getting bored midway and never finish them. I admit, I am guilty of this. There are so many tv shows I have picked up over the months, only to drop it a few weeks later.
Then lastly there is the, “Shit’s on fire, yo! Phase” . Well, I mean, just like the name indicated, shit’s on fire. I mean, not literally, of course. But whenever I am in this phase – which is not often, thank god – I practically chuck all my life responsibilities off the balcony, lock myself in my room and glue my eyes to the computer screen because, who has time for life? I got fangirling to do!
Which is why, I have decided to share with you the tv shows that started all of this binge-watching madness. Before you go in though, I should warn you that this list is probably going to be one of the most random list you’ll ever see, because your girl is all about diversity. That, or I just have the excitement level of a kid who wants to watch everything *laughs*

Don’t even get me started on this one because if I start gushing, I don’t know if I can stop. I haven’t watched a Korean Drama that is this addicting since Goblin .
If you need confirmation as to how addicting it was, I just picked up this show yesterday, and I got to episode 8 in a day’s time. I abandoned all the cries and yells from my assignments and presentations for this show. If that doesn’t show you just how good and addicting this show is, then I don’t know what will.
2. Are You Human, Too?
Status : On going
The drama tells of an android called Nam Shin III who must pretend to be the son of a rich family when the real Nam Shin falls into a coma. But when Nam Shin, who is a third generation heir to PK group, gets in an accident and is comatose, the android Nam Shin III must learn how to take his place.
To be perfectly honest with you, the reason why I am so excited for this show is because I heard that the filming budget for this drama was around 10 Billion Won, or about 931200.00 USD.
I mean, I don’t know about you, but to me, that seems like a staggering amount of money to throw into a tv show. Which is how I have heard about “Are You Human, Too?” in the first place. The hype at first was all about how big the budget was for this show, which makes people intrigued to see what the fuss is all about. Although, if I were to be truly honest with you, the real reason why I decided to pick this up was because the male lead.
Oh honey, the male lead just looks so good. Like, damn boy. Them genes though.
You can literally record him just going on about his day and I would still want to watch it. Ah, the benefit of good looks. Well, what can I say, the man is handsome. What is it again that they say about the 7 deathly sins? I think lust is one of them. And I am definitely lusting for them good looks. Hey now, life is short, and I am definitely not in the business of denying myself the small pleasures life gave me *wink*
As for the show, I don’t really have much to say about it yet, since it just launched on June 11th. But so far, from the pilot episode that I have watched, it looks promising.
3. Sense 8
Status : Completed
Eight strangers around the globe find themselves connected — first by a violent vision, then by their shared ability to connect with one another’s thoughts and actions, and finally by the urgent need to find out what happened and why. Their need to know goes beyond simple curiosity — as they pursue answers, a mysterious organization hunts them down, intent on destroying them.
Not quite sure what made me pick up this series in the first place. I think it was just one of those things that happened in the spur of the moment, and I went with it, and ended up loving it.
I was looking for more shows like “Stranger Things” when I found out about this show. Needless to say, Sense 8 blew my mind away with their story-telling, characterization, and editing. This show is easily one of the best show I have ever seen, and the plot is just so unique. Plus, I love just how positive this show is. It truly does breaks the stereotype by showcasing different types of romantic relationship.
Not to mention, the sex scenes, anyone?
4. A Love So Beautiful
Status : Completed
It starts off with high school classmates Chen Xiao and Jiang Chen who are also neighbors. Xiao Xi, a cheerful girl who doesn’t study much, is expressive about her admiration towards Jiang Chen, the popular guy known for his looks and high grades. Together with their fellow classmates the funny Lu Yang, athletic but loyal Jingjing, and cool swimming team member Wu Bo Song, they embark on high school life to university until their adult life.
I think it has been years since I last watch a Chinese Drama. It’s nothing against Chinese dramas, it is just in general, I find that their storyline are easily predictable and their editing aren’t all that good. But for some reason, this show caught my eye while I was scrolling through Youtube not too long ago.
And after I have pulled out my detective glasses and done more research on it – not really, I literally just googled the name of the show – I found out that the rating for this drama is actually quite high. It reaches up to 8.9 for the average rating.
I haven’t really had the chance to get into this show yet, but from what I have seen, it seems to be a cutesy show about a girl’s first love and how she continuously tries to get the attention of the guy she likes. It does look promising, in a sweet and cute way. I’ll definitely be starting this show very soon.
