The Casts of Boys Over Flowers : Where Are They Today?
I don’t know about you, but for me, Boys Over Flowers is the first ever Korean drama that quite literally yanked me head first into the Kdrama/Kpop land.
I mean, look at your girl today. I’m so into Korean dramas and Korean artists that I have a whole ass blog dedicated to it so I can rant and yap about it day in and out. Can you blame me though, when they keep serving us sexy oppas with abs and pretty faces on a silver platter?
Now, I ain’t saying that I’m a thirsty-ass-hoe, but––
Actually, with enough abs, booties and v-lines shown, we’re all thirsty-ass-hoes.
1. Lee Min Ho
Come now don’t lie, when we think of Boys Over Flowers, I dare bet $10 –– hey now don’t judge, that’s lunch money right there –– that Lee Min Ho is one of the first things that comes to mind.
Looking back at his acting in BOF now, not to be disrespectful, but I cringe at how hard I fangirled over him and the romance between him and the main actress Geum Jan Di. Hormones, man.
After his success with Boys Over Flowers, Lee Min Ho went on to star in many famous Korean dramas throughout the years, namely City Hunter (2011), The Heirs (2013), and The Legend of the Blue Sea (2016).
You think Boys Over Flower fame was crazy? Think again. Lee Min Ho has garnered some international attention from BOF and City Hunter, however it didn’t go into full frenzy until he starred in The Heirs with the infamous Park Shin Hye. The Heirs was such a success both locally, with peak rating of 28.6% and internationally, having over one billion hits on the Chinese streaming website iQiyi.
Not only successful in his acting career, Lee Min Ho is also highly fortunate in his dating life as well. The actor publicly dated Park Min Young after developing feeling for her while filming City Hunter, and he also dated actress Suzy Bae for almost 3 years before calling it quits due to some personal reasons.
Mandatory Military Training
Lee Min Ho began his mandatory military service on May 12, 2017 as a public service officer and was discharged on April 25, 2019. The actor was unable to serve as an active duty soldier due to a car accident that happened in August 2006, which caused him to be bedridden for months with serious leg injuries. He then also suffered another car accident in 2011 while filming City Hunter.
He is currently working on a new fantasy romance drama called The King: Eternal Monarch that was set to release on 2020.
2. Ku Hye Sun
Ku Hye Sun, who played as Geum Jan Di, the main actress in Boys Over Flowers managed to enchant both local and international fans.
After working together on the Korean drama Blood with her co-star Ahn Jae-Hyun, the two confirmed that they were dating on April 2015 and decided to marry on May 20, 2016. Local and international fans seem to support the two together, and both Ahn Jae-Hyun and Ku Hye Sun constantly posted on their social medias just how loving and well their relationship is going.
It took the public by surprise in August 2019, when Ahn Jae-Hyun was reported requesting a divorce from Ku Hye Sun. From then, things started to become messy between the two as Ku started to post text messages between her and her husband discussing divorce on her Instagram account. After a weeks of them going back and forth airing their dirty laundry on the internet, Ahn finally submitted an application for divorce on September 9, 2019 and it was delivered to Ku on September 18, 2019.
Taking A Break
On September 1, 2019, Ku Hye Sun revealed in an Instagram post that she would be taking a break from the entertainment industry to resume college.
3. Kim Hyun Joong
After his success with Boys Over Flowers, Kim Hyun Joong went and starred in Playful Kiss (2010) which flopped in South Korea, but was an international hit on foreign televisions and online streaming platforms.
Despite his success with acting, Kim didn’t go lazy with his musical career either as he continuously worked on releasing new music in Japanese and started expanding his reach by kicking off a Japanese tour called Unlimited in 2013. Both his singing and acting career are seemingly on the climb as Kim Hyun Joong started gaining more and more traction internationally.
Everything came to a halt however, when in August 2014, Kim’s girlfriend filed assault charges against him, claiming that he repeatedly beat her, causing bruises and broken ribs. Kim’s girlfriend –– identified only by surname Choi, later dropped some of the charges against Kim in September after he apologized to her. However, that was not until he was fined $4600 USD for injuring Choi.
In May 2015, again Choi filed a lawsuit against Kim for 1.48 million USD for mental distress caused by her relationship with him, and claimed that his abuse had caused her to miscarry a previous pregnancy in 2014. However, Kim then filed and won a 100 million KRW counter-suit against Choi for defamation, with the court ruling that she was not pregnant in 2014.
In March 2017, Kim Hyun Joong was charged with drunk driving after police found him passed out in his car at a traffic light in Seoul. His driver’s license was then revoked and he was fined 2 million KRW.
On 4 February 2019 he released a new album entitled ‘NEW WAY‘.
4. Kim Bum
His most recent and last project before enlistment was Detective K: Secret of the Living Dead which turned out to be a huge success, earning $18.5 million in ticket sales.
In February 2012, it was announced via Kim Bum’s agency that he was suffering from degenerative arthritis due to the dramatic weight loss that he had to go through after training for his role in a drama called Padam Padam.
Due to this, the actor enlisted as a public service worker on April 26, 2018 and was unable to work as active duty soldier. He was due to be discharged in 2020.
On November 1, 2013, it was reported that Kim was dating Moon Geun-young, his co-star from Goddess of Fire. The relationship however didn’t last long as they were reported to have ended their relationship after 7 months.
Then on March 29, 2018, Kim was confirmed dating actress Oh Yeon-seo. Unfortunately, the two parted ways as well after a few months of dating.
5. Kim Joon
Kim Joon seemed to be the only actor from the Boys Over Flowers Squad that has gone MIA from the entertainment industry.
In June 2018, it was reported that he has actually been married for 3 years to a woman he dated for 9 years even before he debuted as an actor, and that they have had a daughter together.
6. Lee Min Jung
Another married member from the cast of Boys Over Flowers. After the success and fame Lee Min Jung gained from Boys Over Flowers, she then went and starred in many various productions such as Big (2012), Cunning Single Lady (2014), and Come Back Mister (2016).
Lee Min Jung married actor Lee Byung-hun on August 10, 2013. The couple had briefly dated in 2006, and then resumed their relationship in 2012. Lee Min Jung’s husband was reportedly had a few affairs after their marriage, despite that, Lee Min Jung continued to stand by her husband’s side and now they seemed to be happier than ever with a son together.
