Korean Drama Quotes Galore : Itaewon Class (이태원 클라쓰)

Today, your girl is going to present you a post filled with inspirational quotes from the infamous Korean drama Itaewon Class (이태원 클라쓰).

Despite my not too fond review of Itaewon Class, I did enjoy a good half of the drama before it went off the rails and ended up being a total mess. Although the ending was kind of “meh”, I still think that this drama still brought up a lot of issues important that young people are facing today. From discrimination, to being accepted as who they are, to finding themselves and love at the same time.

Because if Itaewon Class taught me anything, it’s that as long as you put your mind to it and keep working at it, dreams eventually do come true. Sure things can be hard at times and everything might seem like it’s more than you can handle, but as long as you’re giving it your very best, it’s already more than enough. Due to that, I have decided to make a post for all the memorable quotes that resonated with me while I was watching Itaewon Class. I’m doing this in the hopes that if/when things get tough in life, through these quotes, you too might be able to find the courage and determination to keep pushing forward. Just like Park Saeroyi did.

Korean drama itaewon class quotes

Feel free to press play:

I’m a rock. Go ahead and sear me. I won’t budge an inch because I’m a rock. Go ahead and beat me up. I’m a solid rock. Go ahead and leave me in darkness. I’m a rock that will shine all alone. I don’t break, ash, nor decay as I go against nature’s way.

I survive. I’m diamond.

There are people who keep me strong. I wanted to repay them by making delicious food, that’s why I’m here. I work at the best pub in Korea with the most wonderful people. I too, will be the best.

Korean drama itaewon class quotes

“When we worked at the factory together, do you remember what I said? You are the bravest person I know. Whatever they say, you’re a brave and pretty girl.”

Love and success. I can achieve all those things.

I’m going to live for myself, it’s my life.

I wanted to be happy. Without losing myself, I wanted to achieve everything I want. There were difficult days. Sometimes, I was nervous and afraid. How did I get through all that? With my loved ones, I’ve led a hectic life doing what I want to do. Staying with them. Sharing my life with them. In search of happiness.

“He’s not just a mediocre man. I will turn him into something amazing.”

Korean drama itaewon class quotes

“Rich? I will make you rich. Jangga Co. gives you a hard time? I will destroy them for you.”

“’I can do this, everything will be fine.’ I kept telling myself that and tried really hard. But the truth is, my life alway felt so burdensome. And living my life based on hatred was really difficult.”

“I bet you had a tough time.”

“Yes, it was tough.”

You finally got it. That’s what life is. You can overcome anything as long as you’re alive.

Because I’m your enemy. The day I got expelled for refusing to get on my knees, my dad told me that he’s proud to have me as his son. Getting expelled? Getting kicked out? You took absolutely nothing from me.

My dad…he said he was proud of me. He was so proud of me.

“My mind and my heart…are both filled with you. Is this how you felt?”

itaewon class quotes

“Do you like me?”

“No, I love you.”

“What? I didn’t hear you. Say that again.”

“Say what?”

“What you just said.”

Happiness. The warmth I share with you. I’m already happier than I ever imagined I could be.

Unlike myself I wanted you to be proud and confident.

I want you to keep living like that, my son.

You went to prison because of me, you got expelled from school because of me, and you think your dad died because of me, right? My gosh. You know what?

You’re right about that.

“I guess she talked to you a few times out of pity…Did you fall for her? Isn’t it obvious she did it out of pity? Think about it, would she marry the son of Jangga…or date an ex-convict who barely finished middle school?”

“But I’m sure she wouldn’t want a murderer.”

itaewon class quotes

You just apologized after losing everything. What good would it do me?

Don’t you dare think you can determine my worth.

You can overcome anything, as long as you’re alive.

I really mean it.

“But if you let it slide just this once…”

“Just this once? Once and for all? But there will be another time. It will make things easy just this once. But you know what? Those one times might change your whole life.”

What bothered me was when my dad got fired just because I stuck to my principles. It was when my dad passed away due to a hit and run and the truth behind his death was covered up. I already collapsed once. The reason I was able to get back on my feet was because I wanted to get revenge, and before I achieve that, I will never be happy.

There are things that are impossible. Something above death. Kneeling before Chairman Jang Dae-hee is one.

itaewon class quotes

You want to stop this ill-fated relationship? There’s one way to stop. Do you want to know what it is?

Get punished for all that you’ve done wrong. And get on your knees.

It’s just me. I don’t need anyone’s approval or validation.

My dream was to become a cop. But I lost my temper once and became an ex-convict. An ex-convict can’t become a police officer. I understood that and gave up my dream. Because the police are supposed to defend the law. They are supposed to be cleaner and more righteous than anyone.

Follow my heart and be myself. A life without regrets regardless of consequences. That’s how I wanted to live.

Your life might seem repetitive.

But no one really knows what could happen tomorrow.

Who knows? Your boring life might turn into an exciting one.

“I don’t like guys who are poor. Do you plan to make a lot of money?”

“From this moment on, my dream is to become rich.”

itaewon class quotes

Some days were tough and some days were sad. But something fun always came along every once in a while. It’s been happening a lot more ever since you came.

If you don’t like me, that’s just what it is.

Work, age gap, and all that. They’re just excuses.

Life is just so pointless and obvious.

We all grow old and die before we even turn 100.

But we all try so hard to live a decent life.

It would’ve been nice if I was never born in the first place.

It feels like such a chore.

Whenever things got difficult, you played dirty. And look where you are now. You think its hard to stick to your principles and be honest about what you like and dislike. You’re just giving excuses so you can feel comfortable with yourself.

“Are you in your right mind?”

“Not really. How would I be in my right mind?”

If you have the guts to die, you should try your best to stay alive.

itaewon class quotes

I can’t sleep well at night. I feel nostalgic. Lonely and upset.

If I have the chance to be born again, I want to be born as your son.

My nights aren’t that painful anymore. I have friends who need me. And I’m curious about what kind of future we’ll be spending together. I look forward to it. They give me joy. I know you’re no longer with me. But I’m going to embrace my yearning heart. And I’ll continue to live my life.

“Now that your revenge is over, can I ask your a favor?”

“Yes, what is it?”

“Live. Happily.”

“I will.”

Was that life? Well then.

Once more!

  • In what episode was the quote “you can overcome anything as long as you are alive”
    Love all the quotes!

    • Thank you! Hmm, I believe it’s middle towards the end of the drama. Although I don’t remember the exact episode, I’m sorry about that.

  • Its been a long time since I watch kdrama, last drama was feast of the gods, it’s to emotional for me but I had to watch this because of this Start Over and Stone Block, still emotional and unsatisfied of the ending..cause i want him with Soo Ah, but never regret it best drama i ever watch. It teaches me about business, family, friendship and stay true to your principle the most and of course the hardship in it. Hopefully i get to get rid of lingering feelings and emotional roller coaster i had with this drama.

    • I agree. This drama really did taught me a lot of things, but just like you said, I too was a tad bit disappointed by how the decided to wrap things up. Towards the end, everything just seems a whole lot more rushed and it stopped being enjoyable to watch. I’m glad that Itaewon Class managed to bring you out of your kdrama slump. Hopefully this will be the first Korean drama out of many more that you’ll watch this year 🙂
