12 LGBT Books to Read, Because Why Not? –– Book Recommendations

I don’t know why, maybe because life in quarantine has been bleh lately, or because I suddenly remember the Call Me By Your Name story but all of a sudden, all I want to do is read some steamy LGBT books.

I remembered there was a period in time last year when I was so gung-ho about reading M/M romance novels. And it’s not just no lovey-dovey M/M romance either, I need mine to have fights, and blood and angst. Ah, the good old days.

These days, all I do is read non-fiction like a brainy adult. While that’s all fine and dandy, sometimes I just want to re-connect with my trashy inner self who loved to gasp and cheer for sexy chiseled men while they fight for their lives and love with my girlfriends, you feel? So seeing that 2020 is all about mental health awareness and reconnecting with oneself, I say why not retrace back to the LGBT horntrain that I was on a year ago and dive into all the passionate and steamy LGBT books that I know I have stashed in my bookshelves somewhere.

As always, I’ll curate the list for you. You know your girl will only recommend you the kinkiest panty-dropping angsty LGBT book there are.

BLURB  :

Fantasies can sometimes mess up the real thing.

Austy Nunziata has spent two years pining for her married best friend and about the same amount of time berating herself for it. In fact, she’s so adept at trying to stamp out her feelings that she could probably write a How-To guide on the subject. One, move 3,000 miles away from your best friend. Two, get a time-consuming job so you don’t have time to think about your best friend. Three, hang out with new friends who aren’t anywhere as enchanting as your best friend. Four, get involved with a striking woman who is smart, sexy, caring and, most importantly, available, unlike your best friend. Five, hope the new love interest doesn’t find out about your pathetic best friend obsession before you have time to replace it with actual life-altering love.

Even following her own step-by-step process, Austy may not be able to redirect all of her misguided feelings. Becoming involved with Elise Bridie helps her realize how pointless her pining has been. But when Elise suspects that she harbors feelings for someone else, will their new found love survive the unrequited infatuation of Austy’s fantasies?

12. The Song of Achilles

Genre : LGBT, Retelling, Fantasy, Historical Fiction

Type   : Standalone

Status : Published

BLURB  :

Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son Achilles. By all rights their paths should never cross, but Achilles takes the shamed prince as his friend, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine their bond blossoms into something deeper – despite the displeasure of Achilles’ mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But then word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus journeys with Achilles to Troy, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear.

Profoundly moving and breathtakingly original, this rendering of the epic Trojan War is a dazzling feat of the imagination, a devastating love story, and an almighty battle between gods and kings, peace and glory, immortal fame and the human heart.
